GPS Trackers

Are there separate SIM or mobile data charges?
No separate mobile data plan is required. Every GPSBob tracker includes a multi-network global SIM, and its connectivity forms part of the GPSBob service, so you do not need to organise or maintain your own mobile plan for the tracker.
Can a GPS tracker drain my vehicle battery?
Vehicle-powered GPS trackers are designed for automotive applications and typically use a small amount of power.

Power consumption varies between models and configurations, so vehicles that remain unused for very long periods may require additional consideration.

Rechargeable GPS trackers are also available if you prefer a completely independent power source.
Can a thief detect a GPS tracker?
A discreetly or professionally installed tracker can be difficult to locate, but no GPS tracker should be considered completely undetectable.

The tracker type and installation position both play an important role in how discreet the installation is.
Can GPSBob be used for business vehicles and fleets?
Yes. GPSBob can be used to track company cars, UTEs, vans, service vehicles and other fleet assets.

Multiple trackers can be managed through one account, making GPSBob suitable for individual tradies, small businesses and larger fleets.
Can I create geofences?
Yes. GPSBob Pro supports geofencing, allowing you to define locations or areas and receive relevant notifications when a tracked vehicle or asset enters or leaves those areas.
Can I have GPS tracking and Casper installed together?
Yes.

Combining GPS tracking with an immobiliser can provide two different layers of vehicle security.

Casper helps prevent unauthorised vehicle use, while GPSBob gives you visibility over the vehicle's location and journeys.
Can I install a GPSBob tracker myself?
Yes, where the product is designed for self installation.

GPSBob offers rechargeable, portable and simple vehicle-powered trackers that can be installed without a specialist.

Products requiring professional installation will be clearly identified.
Can I move a rechargeable tracker between vehicles?
Yes. Portable rechargeable trackers can be moved between suitable vehicles and assets, making them ideal where you do not require a permanently installed tracker.
Can I see my vehicle's live location?
Yes. GPSBob lets you view the current reported location of your tracker through the app or web platform. The frequency of location updates depends on the tracker, its configuration, network coverage and whether it is battery-powered or connected to the vehicle.
Can I see where my vehicle has been?
Yes. GPSBob Pro includes journey and location history, allowing you to review where your vehicle or asset has travelled and when.

GPSBob trackers sold through TechMonkey include the Pro subscription as standard unless otherwise stated on the individual product page.
Can I set alerts for my vehicle?
Yes. GPSBob supports a range of alerts depending on the tracker and configuration. These can include events such as movement, geofence activity, battery status and other tracker or vehicle events.

Available alerts vary by product.
Can I track more than one vehicle?
Yes. Multiple GPSBob trackers can be managed through the same account, making the platform suitable for multiple personal vehicles, business vehicles, fleets and other assets.
Can I use GPSBob to track plant, machinery or equipment?
Yes. Suitable GPSBob products can be used to monitor plant, machinery, trailers, equipment and other valuable mobile assets.

Rechargeable and long-life trackers are particularly useful where a permanent vehicle power supply is unavailable or impractical.
Do GPSBob trackers need professional installation?
Not all of them.

GPSBob offers both self-install and professionally installed tracking solutions. The installation type required for each tracker will be clearly shown on its TechMonkey product page.
Do I need a subscription?
Yes. GPSBob trackers require an active service subscription for their connected tracking functionality.

GPSBob trackers sold through TechMonkey are supplied with the GPSBob Pro subscription as standard, unless specifically stated otherwise on the product page. Compare what each plan includes on our Pricing page.
Does GPSBob work anywhere in Australia?
GPSBob trackers use satellite positioning to find their location and a multi-network SIM to send it. Because the SIM automatically switches between Australia's major networks, including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone, your tracker uses whichever network has the strongest signal where it is, giving far wider coverage than a tracker locked to a single carrier.

In very remote areas with no mobile coverage from any network, new location data may not reach the platform until the tracker is back in range. See our Coverage page for more.
Do I need to purchase any SIM card?
No — every GPSBob device comes with a built-in multi-network global SIM already included, so there's nothing extra to buy or activate.

It automatically switches between Australia's top networks, including Telstra, Optus and Vodafone, to get the best signal for undisrupted tracking, plus international roaming across 180+ countries. See our Coverage page for full details.
How accurate is GPS tracking?
GPS trackers can typically locate a vehicle or asset to within a few metres when there is a good view of GPS satellites. Accuracy can vary depending on the environment, and locations such as underground car parks, dense buildings or enclosed spaces can temporarily reduce GPS performance.
How does a GPSBob tracker work?
GPSBob trackers use satellite positioning to determine the location of your vehicle or asset and mobile connectivity to send that information to the GPSBob platform. You can then view your trackers, locations and journeys through the GPSBob app or web platform.
How long does a rechargeable GPS tracker battery last?
Battery life varies significantly depending on the tracker, reporting frequency, movement, network conditions and configuration.

Frequent GPS updates use more power, while less frequent reporting can extend battery life considerably.

Check the individual TechMonkey product page for model-specific battery estimates.
Is GPS tracking the same as an immobiliser?
No.

A GPS tracker helps you monitor the location and journeys of your vehicle.

An immobiliser is designed to prevent unauthorised use of the vehicle.

Using GPS tracking and immobilisation together can provide two complementary layers of vehicle security.
Is there a GPSBob mobile app?
Yes. GPSBob can be accessed through its mobile app, allowing you to view your trackers, locations, journeys and available tracking features from your phone.

A web platform is also available for accessing your account from a computer.
What happens when my prepaid 5 years end?
You won't need to buy a new tracker. When your prepaid 5 years of tracking come to an end, you can choose the option that suits you best:

• Move to a monthly plan and keep tracking with no long-term commitment.
• Renew for another 5 years of tracking for a one-off $300.

See our Pricing page for plan details, or contact us and we'll help you choose.
What happens if the tracker loses mobile coverage?
GPSBob trackers use a multi-network SIM, so if one network's signal drops out the tracker automatically switches to another available network, such as Telstra, Optus or Vodafone, and keeps reporting without you doing anything.

Only if no network is available at all, for example in very remote areas, will live updates pause until connectivity returns. Exact behaviour and data storage capabilities vary between tracker models.
What subscription comes with my tracker?
Unless stated otherwise on the individual product page, GPSBob trackers purchased through TechMonkey are supplied with the GPSBob Pro subscription as standard.

Pro provides access to GPSBob's enhanced tracking features including journey history and other available Pro functionality. See the full feature list on our Pricing page.
What's the difference between a hardwired and rechargeable GPS tracker?
Hardwired or vehicle-powered trackers use the vehicle or machine's electrical supply and are well suited to permanent installations and frequent location reporting.

Rechargeable trackers operate from their own internal battery, making them easier to move and install but requiring periodic charging.
Where should a GPS tracker be installed?
The ideal installation location depends on the tracker and vehicle.

The tracker needs suitable access to GPS and mobile signals while remaining secure and discreet. Professionally installed trackers should be positioned by a suitably experienced installer.
Which GPSBob tracker is right for me?
The best tracker depends on what you're tracking and how you want to use it.

Self-install trackers provide convenience, professionally installed trackers offer a more permanent and discreet solution, and rechargeable long-life trackers are ideal where permanent wiring isn't practical. You can compare them all in our GPS tracker range.

If you're unsure, contact TechMonkey and we'll help you choose.
Will GPS tracking stop my vehicle from being stolen?
A GPS tracker helps you monitor and locate your vehicle but does not physically prevent someone from attempting to steal it.

For customers wanting an additional theft-prevention layer, a vehicle immobiliser such as Casper can complement GPS tracking.

Casper Immobiliser

Can Casper be removed later?
Yes, a professionally installed Casper system can generally be removed or replaced by a suitably qualified installer.

Because the system integrates with vehicle electronics, removal should not be treated as a DIY task.
Can I have GPS tracking and Casper installed together?
Yes.

Combining GPS tracking with an immobiliser can provide two different layers of vehicle security.

Casper helps prevent unauthorised vehicle use, while GPSBob gives you visibility over the vehicle's location and journeys.
Does Casper include GPS tracking?
No, not unless explicitly stated for a particular product.

Casper and GPSBob perform different functions.

Casper provides vehicle immobilisation, while GPSBob provides vehicle location and journey tracking.

The two systems can be used together.
Does Casper need professional installation?
Yes.

Casper is a specialist vehicle-security product and should be installed by an approved or suitably experienced installer.

Vehicle compatibility and the correct installation method should be confirmed before installation.
How do I disarm the Casper immobiliser?
The authentication method depends on the Casper model and vehicle configuration.

Compatible systems can use an authorised input sequence or another configured authentication method before the vehicle can be driven.

Your installer will explain the correct operation of your system after installation.
How does a CAN immobiliser work?
Compatible Casper systems communicate with the vehicle's electronic network rather than relying solely on a traditional starter-interrupt relay.

The exact immobilisation method depends on the vehicle and Casper configuration.
How is Casper different from a traditional immobiliser?
Traditional immobilisers often interrupt a physical electrical circuit such as the starter motor circuit.

Casper can instead integrate with compatible vehicle electronics through the vehicle communication network, allowing a more discreet electronic immobilisation method on supported vehicles.
Is Casper suitable for modern vehicles?
Casper is specifically designed around modern vehicle electronic systems, but compatibility is vehicle-specific.

TechMonkey can help confirm support for your make, model and year before installation is arranged.

What happens if I forget my authentication sequence?
Contact TechMonkey or your installer for support.

For security reasons, recovery and authentication information should only be provided after the appropriate ownership or customer checks have been completed.
What happens if my vehicle battery goes flat?
Casper is connected to the vehicle's electrical system, so normal vehicle power requirements still apply.

Once power is restored, the immobiliser remains part of the vehicle security system.

The exact behaviour can depend on the vehicle and installation configuration.
What is a Casper CAN immobiliser?
Casper is an electronic vehicle immobilisation system designed to work with compatible vehicle electronics.

It adds an additional security layer intended to prevent unauthorised use of the vehicle until the correct authentication method has been completed.
Will Casper affect normal vehicle use?
Once correctly authenticated, the vehicle should operate normally.

Casper is designed to provide an additional security layer without changing the everyday driving experience once the authorised user has successfully disarmed the immobiliser.
Will Casper work with my vehicle?
Compatibility depends on the vehicle make, model, year and electronic architecture.

Contact TechMonkey with your vehicle details and we can help confirm whether a suitable Casper installation is available.
